We had a great start to our Connecticut Middle School Debate League season this weekend!

Katelynn, Michael Galla, Indira, Grace, Ishaan, Nicholas, Kay-Lin, Anya, Molly, Abhi and A.J. debated whether homework should be abolished.

We had 135 middle school students from around the state.  This was a scrimmage with no awards.  The emphasis was on getting everyone, including the new students, ready to start the season.  That being said, I wanted to share the exciting news that:

Abhi, Grace and A.J. took 1st Place!!  And Indira and Nicholas took 2nd!!

Abhi was 3rd Place Speaker overall with Kay-Lin taking 7th and Indira 8th!!

For Katelynn, Ishaan, Michael, Anya and Molly it was their first debate competition!

Congratulations to all our debaters!  It was a great day that ended with a big bowl of ice-cream!  (For some, the bowl was really big - see attached picture of Anya!!)

And many thanks to Ben Manus, Ben Mione and Kyle who stepped up to judge.  Kyle also participated in the Exhibition Debate.

We also want to thank Anya's parents - who were called upon at the last moment to drive and stepped right up with a smile on their faces!  - and to Sanjay for driving and doing judge training along with Christine Galla.

What a wonderful community we have!!
