POSITION PAPER DETAILS

  1. Position papers must be double spaced and no longer than two pages.
  2. Citations must follow the MLA format as discussed in class.
  3. A third page should contain your bibliography.
  4. The following sections must be included:
  • Background Information - A brief introduction of the problem.
  • UN Involvement - As part of the UN, your country has either played an active role in the issue or lies distant from it. Although this paragraph is overlooked by delegates, it is vital because this is where you can discuss solutions that have been used in the past and the effectiveness of them.
  • Country Policy -  It is important to understand the perspective of your country. Within this paragraph, discuss your country's involvement with the particular issue being discussed by your committee; if possible, include a quote from someone from your country on the issue
  • Solutions - What your country would like to accomplish in the committee's resolution - a very important part of the paper. After finding solutions that your country supports, it is vital to explain each solution in detail and, if possible, describe past experiences showing the effectiveness of a solution or give other reasons the UN should pass a resolution with the solution as an operative. Do not include your perspective, but your country‚Äôs perspective.
  • The heading, located at the top of each position paper, must include:
    • Name of School
    • Name of Committee
    • Name of Country
